in need of long-term services and
supports.

and respect the unique qualities
of our clients when evaluating their
needs so we can seek resources for
care that will honor their wishes
and values. After developing a plan,
we remain available to implement
it and coordinate care on an ongoing
basis
Our services are paid privately
or may be covered by long term care
insurance. They are not covered
by Medicare or Medicaid. We offer
competitive rates and superior service.

Leah Cohen, LCSW, ACSW, CCM, NG,
RM

Biographical Notes
Leah Cohen , LCSW, ACSW,
CCM, RG, RM, is a licensed social
worker, registered guardian, and
mediator. She currently has
a private care management company,
arrangeCARE PC, focusing on older
adults and people with disabilities
over the life span.
She received her Master
of Social Work from the University
of Illinois and Master of Industrial
Relations from Loyola University
in Chicago, where she received an
Administration on Aging Fellowship. Ms. Cohen served as a Texas Delegate
at the White House Conference on
Aging in 2004. She has over
30 years experience working with
aging and disability populations.
She is a member of the
National Association of Social Workers
and the National Guardianship Association,
on the Board of the South Central
Chapter of the National Association
of Private Geriatric Care Managers,
and vice president of the Texas
Guardianship Certification Board.
She has been an adjunct faculty
member at St.Edwards University in Austin,Texas Ms. Cohen presents nationally on
a wide variety of elder/disability
care topics.

Paula M. Mixson, LMSW-P

Biographical Notes
Paula M. Mixson,
LMSW-P, began her association with
Case Management and Guardianship
Services, now reorganized as arrangeCare,
PC, in 2004. She worked in the Texas
Adult Protective Services program
for more than 20 years in positions
ranging from caseworker in the Houston
area to a division administrator
in state office in Austin.
Widely recognized
as an expert on adult protection
and elder abuse, she writes, trains,
and consults nationally and internationally.
A founding member of the National
Adult Protective Services Association,
she currently volunteers on the
boards of Gray Panthers of Austin,
the Austin Validation Center for
Dementia Communication, and
the National Committee for the Prevention
of Elder Abuse.
She graduated
from Sam Houston State Teacher’s
College with a degree in Drama and
is licensed in Texas as a Master
Social Worker, Advanced Practitioner.
She holds national and Texas guardianship
certification and international
certification as a V/F Validation®
Worker, Level One. (Validation®
is a method for communicating with
elderly persons with late-onset
dementia.) Ms. Mixson’s publications
include articles in the Journal
of Elder Abuse and Neglect (Haworth
Press), LifeTimes, and
Victimization of the Elderly and
Disabled.
